Plagiarism: Accidential and Intentional
We all know what Plagiarism means. Taking credit for someone elses work without citing the origional writer. Even if you summerize or paraphrase a writer without citing them, is plagiarism. Any time quotes are used, one must cite where the information came from (sourse).
Accidential: refers to using someone's words without citing the sourse accurately, not intending to do so. You origionally didn't intend on not giving credit where credit is due. You just forgot to cite or inaccurately cited.
Intentional: refers to using someone elses work, information, sources, even quotes without citing. This is complete dishonesty. This usually happens when one attemps to copy someone elses work they've done.
Whether it is Accidential or Intentional the consequences are the same. And just a reminder or to refresh one's memory: The first time plagiarism occures, you fail the assignment. The second time (if it should occure again) you will fail the class. If plagiarism occures a third time you will be dismissed from school permanently. (The KU Handbook for Writers, Second Edition, pg 238-239 13a-13b)
I am still working on how to properly cite references. As the saying goes 'practice makes perfect'. If anyone has any tips on easy ways to remember citing, feel free to comment.
Thank you all!
